The RAMSES-ESP is a Gateway device to connect RAMSES-II HVAC systems to a host running Home Management software such as Home Assistant or Domoticz.
Like the SSM-D2 you can plug the device directly into a host USB port and use the device as a serially connected gateway. However, ramses_esp also implements an MQTT client which means you no longer need to co-locate the RAMSES-ESP with your host system.
The standard USB A-Type plug means you can connect directly to your host or power it from common USB wall chargers or wall outlets with a USB port.
The RAMSES-ESP is supplied with a choice of a straight or a right-angle antenna. For optimal performance the antenna should be vertical so the choice depends on the orientation of the USB socket being used. Both antennas can be supplied at extra cost.
Initial configuration of WiFi and MQTT via the USB serial interface. Subsequently all configuration and control is available via both the USB and MQTT interfaces.
No need to install software packages to install later versions of the firmware. Once you've configured WiFi access ramses-esp provides an Over-The-Air Update facility.
The RAMSES-ESP is a direct replacement for devices running evofw3.
If you are using Home Assistant the HACS Integration RAMSES RF supports both the USB and MQTT interfaces.
The RAMSES-ESP with ramses_esp firmware is compatible with:
- CH/DHW systems such as evohome, SunDial, Hometronic, Chronotherm and others.
- Other HVAC systems using the same protocol e.g. Itho, Orcon, Nuaire, Ventiline.

Good for evohome, but missing functionality for intergas boiler
"Works well with ramses-rf in home-assistant on an rpi4 for an evohome controller with multiple zone valves, local thermostats and radiator valves, controlling my central heating boiler in on/off mode. I hoped it would also show the status of my intergas xtreme boiler. It recognises the boiler as an opentherm bridge, showing about 30 'diagnostic' entities, but all of them 'unavailable'. So intergas is probably using the ramses-2 protocol, but I guess that the RAMSES-ESP stick is not sending the correct query commands. May have to go for https://github.com/little-chef/intergas-xtreme-monitor, but hesitating because of missing printed circuit board for that project." René De Ridder - 19 August 2024
Works like a charm!
"I needed to control my Siber EVO2 from Home Assistant. This dongle does the trick. I was very easy to have it configured and snooping the traffic between the HVAC unit and its controller (it is an Orcon clone). The preinstalled Ramses RF firmware is excellent in auto-generating the schema needed to fake the sensors and commands. Taking into account that detailed examples and instructions are available in the forums I have got everything running in just a couple of days. Works great, long range, highly recommended
"I've originally ordered SSM D2 modules, but due problems with the delivery I've got this model in the end as a replacement. They work perfectly fine, I'm only using them via USB (ttyACM), but they managed to connect to my wifi network as well (handy for updates). The range of the ramses radio is really amazing, it can capture messages from the furthest thermostats, TRVs. It is stable and work very reliable with a Honeywell Evohome 8 zone system.
